Beeswax Wrap – The Best Eco-Friendly Plastic Wrap Alternative

Plastic wrap was discovered in 1933 and was originally used to waterproof military planes and gear. These days plastic wrap is used to keep food fresh, but most people are unaware plastic wrap is causing massive planet pollution. According to National Geographic, “A whopping 91% of plastic is not recycled.” A large problem of plastic wrap as stated by the World Health Organization occurs during disposal in landfills or incinerators when highly toxic chemicals called dioxins are released. A solution to this problem is to switch from a single-use solution to a reusable solution as a beeswax wrap. A Beeswax wrap can last a year with proper care.

What is Beeswax wrap?

The Best Beeswax Food Wrap - A Plastic-Free way to Store Food and Save MoneyBeeswax wraps are not new, but rather a lost tradition. The waxed cloth was used by early homemakers to preserve their food. A beeswax wrap is created by infusing organic cotton with beeswax, organic jojoba oil, and tree resin. The result? A reusable and washable food storage alternative. A benefit of using tree resin is the ability to stick onto itself, and its antimicrobial properties.

What are the Benefits of using a Plastic Alternative for food storage?

Last year 5.3 million Americans used 10 or more rolls of plastic wrap.

For better visualization, each year Americans buy enough plastic wrap to shrink-wrap Texas, which covers 268,581 square miles.

On a positive note, people are starting to learn about the situation and change their behaviors. The consumer research group, Nielsen, estimates that U.S. consumers will spend $150 billion on a wide variety of sustainable products by 2021. plastic wrap
