What is Environmentally Friendly Toothpaste?

It’s hard to ignore the overabundance of natural toothpaste products invading our shelves. With brands making claims that their products are “zero waste” and “environmentally-friendly,” you may find yourself asking, what does that even mean?

Well, to further reduce our environmental impact, natural toothpaste brands use sustainable packagings such as recyclable aluminum metal tubes and glass containers instead of using plastic tubes in which toothpaste normally comes in.

Natural toothpaste aims to utilize organic, safe, and locally-sourced ingredients and do not include any harmful chemicals.

What is Terracycle?

TerraCycle is an innovative enterprise that’s working to revolutionize the recycling industry. Founded in 2001 by Tom Szak, Terracyle now operates in over 20 countries and through their creative platforms worked to successfully recycle billions of pieces of waste. TerraCycle’s Zero Waste Box takes the stress out of recycling. Instead of dealing with the stress of properly sorting your waste and tracking down a recycling center in your area, all you need to do is purchase a  box size on their website. Throw your finished toothpaste and other waste in the box and just send it back to them. Pretty easy, right?

How to Prepare Toothpaste Tubes for Recycling

recycling Recycling your toothpaste is an easy process that requires a good pair of scissors and about 5 minutes of your time. When preparing your tubes for recycling, it’s important to squeeze as much of the paste out as much as you can to reduce the amount of sticky residue left inside. Next, carefully slice the tube body of the tube length-wise and finish by cutting the neck of the tube off. Now that you’re toothpaste tubes are ready to be recycled, just drop off at your local recycling center or throw it into your TerraCycle box and ship it back.
